Afterschool & Summer Program Coordinator

La Scuola is seeking an experienced Afterschool & Summer Program Coordinator to create, administer, and supervise innovative programs operating outside of the regular school day.  This includes our daily afterschool program and also a summer camp program. A thorough understanding of La Scuola’s philosophy, culture, pedagogy, practice, and day-to-day life is essential. Applicants should be enthusiastic, child-oriented, and creative individuals with a desire to work in a bilingual environment, who enjoy being with students and foster their intellectual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development through the duties outlined below.

The Afterschool & Summer Program Coordinator reports to the Lower School Director.

 

Essential Duties

 Develop and implement the curriculum for Extended Care program and Summer program

  • Ensure the quality of the program on a day-to-day basis, and review program curriculum annually
  • Supervise and manage the schedule of the three EC classroom teachers
  • Participate as teachers to EC activities: reads to children; directs and participates in children’s games and other activities; assists children in meeting their physical needs and, in using learning materials and equipment; and, assists children in developing positive attitudes,habits, knowledge, and skills.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and parents
  • Assist in preparation and distribution of snacks and meals

 Create trimester-long Enrichment Programs that represent a range of student interests

  • Research mission-appropriate after school enrichment programs to introduce to the school community
  • Produce and communicate the program overview with each program description, schedule and price for the parent community
  • Evaluate program activities through surveys

 Develop and implement the curriculum for Summer program

  • Manage the day-to-day functions of camp life (e.g. prepare teachers and staff schedule, organize meals with the kitchen staff, order supplies and materials as needed)
  • Oversee teachers and staff and facilitate camp activities
  • Prepare instructional materials as required
  • Manage summer camp enrollment and budget
  • Develop marketing plans to recruit campers
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and parents

 Substitute teacher on call during the morning in class

 General duties

  • Use appropriate re-direction and positive guidance strategies when resolving issues
  • Maintain accurate and organized records such as attendance records and incident reports

 

Qualifications

 A minimum of a BA, or Child Development Certificate

 Previous experience working with children required

 

Required Skills

 Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English

 Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in Italian (strongly desired)

 Strong supervisory, organizational, technical, and analytical skills

 Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

 Technologically-savvy (operate a computer and related software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, inResonance, and email) and detail-oriented

 Able to work collaboratively with a team

 Problem solving, creativity, multitasking skills

 Excellent attendance and punctuality records

 

 

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Final candidate will need to pass Criminal Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance, Physical Exam and TB Test.

This is a full-time exempt position, approximately 35-40 hours per week; this position will start in October.

 

Pay will be depend on qualifications and experience.
