"Our task is to help children communicate with the world,

using all their potential, strengths and languages,

and to overcome any obstacle presented by our culture"

                                                                                Loris Malaguzzi

La Scuola has recently been recognized as San Francisco’s first IB-PYP School and is now the first Reggio - IB Italian Immersion program in the world! La Scuola, founded in San Francisco in 2002 as La Piccola Scuola Italiana, has grown from a small playgroup of Italian-American and Italian families to a thriving International community of over 240 families from preschool through 6th grade. This year we are officially opening Middle School!

We are very proud of our growing multicultural, warm and lively community of staff and parents with 25 different languages spoken at home and people from all walks of life.

We commit to being innovative and open to the changes in education that will allow our students to thrive in the 21st century, in addition to develop their cross-cultural cognition, thanks to the close interaction with peers and teachers from all over the world.

Our Mission & Goals

La Scuola’s mission is to Inspire Brave Learners To Shape The Future and nurture each child’s innate ability to learn through a unique combination of curricula and approach: the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP) curriculum framework and Reggio Emilia inspired pedagogy, both of which are inquiry-based Constructivist learning approaches. Our goal is to give children the gift of a life long passion for learning, and international and global mindset, the gift of bilingualism and to prepare them for the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

In our 13th year as a preschool and our 4th year as an elementary school, we are excited to grow one grade per year until 8th grade, and to expand to a two classes per grade school. We hope to find more faculty and staff that will share our enthusiasm about our programs and our vibrant international community with a focus on critical thinking, creative expression and global empathy.

Our faculty benefits from working in a small class-size with a great teacher/student ratio, amazing professional development and career growth opportunities, in two beautiful campuses in San Francisco, California.

    What our teachers say...

"La Scuola is a place that has made me grow in so many aspects of my life. Working as a teacher at La Scuola, means for me being a researcher with the children and together, discovering something new every day. It is a great learning experience. I enjoy the inquiry process, and offering to my students new provocations in reference to the education, trying to generate different spaces that respect the integral development of the children, making the school a place where the students are always looking forward to go to. We are open-minded and believe in the one hundred languages of Malaguzzi, we value different ways of thinking and communicate through our Reggio inspiration.
