Campus Reopening Plan for Summer & 2020-21 School Year

Friday, May 29, 2020

Ciao La Scuola,

I am very excited today to be talking to you from our Mission Campus. It is so wonderful to be back. It definitely is not the same without the students but it has been truly special to be spending my workday here today.

I want to start with something very happy and positive. We did receive news from the IB Team that we also got our authorization for our PYP - Primary Years Program - so we are now officially a continuum school PreK through Grade 8 accredited by IB. So that is truly wonderful for us and it is a bright future ahead.

I also want to let you know, as you might have heard, we finally have some guidelines around our Summer Program. So we are still very excited to run it and the City has given us some restrictions in terms of how many weeks you need to attend that we will be sharing with you tomorrow. If that doesn’t match your needs, we are very sorry but we have no choice but to follow city guidelines. But the good news is that we can still have the camp, so let’s celebrate that.

We also want to thank you again because we know it is very difficult to operate in an environment where we just hear one week to the next what we are going to be doing. But we are planning ahead using the guidelines that have been issued for the reopening of the school. I am sharing this document below that will outline our thinking around next year.

Please remember it is not going to be set in stone and the reason is that as the City receives directions and directives from the State of California they will then issue their own guidance for the City of San Francisco. So they are struggling as much as we do to keep up with the pace of the information that gets to them. Again, the key to this is that we all work together to make things safe for our students and to make sure we can still offer a great education while also keeping all of you and the City of San Francisco healthy.

The end of the year is a bit unusual this time. We were hoping to have our wonderful celebrations together like we always do. We will try and do that when that is going to be possible. In the meantime, let’s continue to hold our Nothing Without Joy spirit that is typical of our school. Reach out to us if you have any questions, if you need any help or support, please know that we are here for you. Schedule some time with myself or any leadership team member. Remember, in the end, we will be back together.

Andra’tuttobene - All will be well. Grazie!
