DETAILS: First Day at Mission for K-8 Families - Monday, November 29

Friday, November 19, 2021

Dear K-8 Families,

We look forward to welcoming all our K-8 students and families to the Mission Campus on Monday, November 29. We are writing to share important reminders for the first day of school. Please read through the full message.

What you need to do (see details below):

  • Test before returning after Thanksgiving, upload results here.
  • Download and set up the Procare App if you don’t have it
  • Review NEW drop off and pick-up times for your child(ren) and flow

Thank you for your continued participation and advocacy, support, and patience these past few months. Please reach out to Campus Administration with any questions.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving break with family and friends,

Campus Administration

All students, faculty, and staff are required to be tested within 24 hours of returning to campus on Monday, November 29. BinaxNow at-home tests, Supervised Rapid Antigen Tests, and PCR Tests will all be accepted.

Please submit results for your child directly using this form.

Parents will resume using Procare for all K - 8 students upon drop off and pick up to check in/out the students (without health screening).

Instructions for Parents:

Download/Update the Procare App if you don’t already have it

In Settings: Enable Location Services While using App. This will allow the GeoFence feature to enable you to sign in/out your child(ren) when within 100M of the school property.

There is no need to leave your car for sign in/out.

Students with Walk Away Permission or who come to school by themselves must also Check In and Out with a La Scuola staff member using their unique 4-digit pin code before they can leave campus. We will be giving these pin codes to those children and their families in an email prior to the first day and will also have a list in the main office if the child ever forgets it.

Early Release Wednesdays

  • 2-2:30 p.m.: Grades K-3
  • 2:30-2:55 p.m.: Grades 4-8

Please use the designated white zone specified by grade! See the maps here below. Please be mindful of using only the street necessary for your designated White Zone, as not to create more congestion & traffic in the other. DO NOT park across the street from either white zone to drop off or pick up your child.

We encourage all La Scuola families, to the extent possible, to use sustainable means of transportation such as walking, bicycling, or public transit).

Note: Siblings assigned to different entrances can simply use one or the other.

Traffic flow for 18th Street White Zone:

  • Approach the school eastbound on Folsom Street in order to minimize the number of turns at the intersection of Shotwell and 18th streets
  • Line up on 18th Street between Folsom and Shotwell streets and wait until the white zone is free - DO NOT block the intersection of Shotwell and 18th streets
  • Pull alongside the curb and please do not double park
  • Please be courteous and patient as you pull away from the curb

Traffic flow for Shotwell Street White Zone - New Rules Apply:

  • Approach the school southbound on 17th Street
  • Line up on Shotwell Street - DO NOT block resident driveways
  • Pull alongside the curb and please do not double park
  • When you pull away from the white zone, turn left on 18th Street
    • DO NOT continue straight on Shotwell Street - it is a slow street that is not open to through traffic
    • The right lane of 18th Street will have cars lined up in our second white zone and we don’t want to congest that area
    • Please be courteous and patient as you pull away from the curb

Please remember Shotwell is now a Slow Street.  For cars, the posted speed limit is 15mph, but 10mph is even better given the presence of children and neighbors.  Take your time, yield to all pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and be a good neighbor. This is a big part of our community building. Using sustainable means of transportation when possible, walking, biking, and public transit are always encouraged.

  • Meals and any unmasked time will continue to take place outdoors, weather permitting.
  • As students in Grades 4-8 already do, students in Grades 1-3 will be using our gym at San Carlos as part of our daily programming, accompanied by their teacher or other staff member.
  • For our Elementary Students in Grades K-5, while there is no current plan to visit the park or take advantage of other local neighborhood resources, these outings may be a part of experiential learning and teachers will give families notice in advance.

Grade 1 students will move into the first floor of the St. Charles Building, the building we currently occupy.

  • Room 103 - Grade 1 Arancione
  • Room 104 - Grade 1 Verde

Grade 2 and Grade 3 students will move into the new Modular Classrooms as follows:

  • Blue: Room MA1 - Grade 2 Arancione and Room MA2 - Grade 2 Verde
  • Green: Room MB1 - Grade 3 Arancione and Room MB2 - Grade 3 Verde
  • Orange: Room MC1 - Art/Design Atelier for all students

  • Students in Extended Care will be checked out by their teacher and guided to Extended Care check-in at the end of the school day.
  • For Pick Up between 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. (2:40 - 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays), please dial 01 from the gate on 18th street. Please note that the intercom screen may appear dark and has nothing written on it, but it works.
  • Enrichment programs will follow the same schedule as on the Fell campus currently and the transition should be seamless. Please email Wladymir Paiva directly with any questions.

With much anticipation and appreciation,

La Scuola Campus Administration
