Physical Education (P.E.)

Physical Education lessons support the units of inquiry that are so foundational to the La Scuola experience. In Physical Education classes, students develop an understanding of the factors that contribute to developing and maintaining a balanced, healthy lifestyle and the importance of regular physical activity and safety considerations for self and others.

Students explore the following strands:

  • Movement Composition
  • Individual Pursuits
  • Adventure Challenge
  • Games and Health-related fitness

Middle School Athletics Program

IB-MYP Physical and Health Education aims to empower students to understand and appreciate the value of being physically active while developing the motivation for making healthy and informed life choices. To this end, physical and health education courses foster the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes contributing to a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Students engaged in physical and health education will explore a variety of concepts that help foster an awareness of physical development and health perspectives, as well as positive social interaction. Physical activity and health are of central importance to human identity and global communities, creating meaningful connections among people, nations, cultures and the natural world.

The La Scuola Athletics experience is a journey which is a source of growth, pride, and enthusiasm for all members of our community. At our school, athletics is serious and fun; it includes skill, intelligence, passion, and above all, heart. Our student athletes play because they love the game, value their teammates, and take pride in representing something bigger than themselves. La Scuola Athletics fosters a spirit of competition, commitment, leadership, and true sportsmanship regardless of the result, while honoring cultural diversity and gender equity.

We offer team sports for the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons.  Below is a list of what we offered in the 2021-2022 academic year. Other possible league options include Tennis, Table Tennis, and Indoor Soccer.

  • Fall: Volleyball and Performance Training
  • Winter: Basketball and Performance Training
  • Spring: Track and Field and Performance Training

Student-athletes represent La Scuola in the San Francisco International Athletic League (SFIAL), competing against our neighboring independent schools. Last year 77% of our middle school student body participated in at least one of our athletic programs. We look forward to the ongoing growth and success of the program.
