Mission Campus Development
Construction of New Main Building
At La Scuola, environment is more than mere space or setting - it's a teacher that plays an essential role in our education and our future. The sunlight through the windows, the aromas of the garden, the color of the paint. We know that environmental factors such as these illuminate the course of our lives, with opportunity and hope. That's why we invest our energy, intelligence, and care to create the optimal environment for education; so that all the members of our community continue to grow "open to the world." This is the path we've chosen.
Today, we have an opportunity to continue to build upon our efforts thus far and to make a resounding impact for generations to come. Already, our community has grown beyond the bounds of our current building. As more and more families choose La Scuola for its unique ability to elevate students as the protagonists in their own education, we need to create a new campus that's as expansive as our imaginations.
The Mission campus will be transformed into the ideal international school of the future - the first and only of its kind in the United States. This building will become the main entrance to our campus and will house our food atelier and dining room, upper elementary and middle school classrooms, extended care space, library and more. The classroom design and layout of each space are unique and at the heart of the Reggio Emilia program, as they provide students with innovative spaces to learn, explore, create, and experiment. This transformational space is designed to align with our distinctive pedagogy, where students learn deeply, find beauty in the world around them, and discover extraordinary answers.
While construction timelines are often fluid, we are currently on track and planning to move in the space spring 2026.

Looking Ahead...
Last Updated: October 31, 2025
Sunshade system is up on the south façade and the building finally looks like Michele Zini’s. The entrance canopy will arrive on site next week. The big news in the interior is the eagerly-anticipated arrival of the Mara Forni pizza oven. With tile and flooring complete in the food service area, the front kitchen remains free of obstructions so that the 3400-pound oven can be moved into place next week. Otherwise, the first level is fully painted, and ready to receive polish and sealer on the concrete floors. Acoustic ceilings are installed on the second and third floors, and wood floors are being installed on the second floor now. Flooring crew will complete level 2 wood floors next week, cover their installed work, and will move on to the third floor. The east stairs will be fully painted next week, after which the painters will move to the west stairs. Outside on 18 th Street, perimeter fence is being reconfigured, and temporary ramps and walkways will redirect foot traffic. During a 6-week period, crews will demolish the existing and install new curbs, gutters, and sidewalk on La Scuola’s 18 th St. frontage as well as a new street light pole in front of St. Charles building.

Chan Kaajal Park does not have a public bathroom easily accessible to La Scuola students as it is located in the condominium building next door. Students are encouraged to use the bathroom before walking to the park. In the case that a student needs to use the bathroom while at the park, one faculty or staff member will accompany the student to Robin’s Cafe to use the bathroom.
